Hmmmm, blogging on a Saturday evening…is this a good work life balance?
If you are looking to develop work-life balance, consider joining Work-Life Balance Training Course from pdtraining in Hamilton, Christchurch, Wellington and other cities in New Zealand.
Must be a pretty sad and lonely existence, right?
Well, actually, no. In an hour or so, I will meet up with a bunch of friends (well, ok, they are also pdtraining students) for some drinks, after their Company’s awards dinner – strangely enough, it seems that there was a disproportionate number of our trainees represented within the AWARD group. I’m sure that is just a coincidence, right?
Anyhow, back to work-life balance…It is said that the perfect balance has been achieved when you have enough time and energy to both do your job and live the rest of your life.
Ok, sounds fair.
Buuuutttttt for me, I am not actually sure where one starts and the other stops.
Take tonight for example; I just updated Facebook. Was that work?
Ummm probably not, as it is not required in my job description… however, I was talking about training – which I am passionate about, and also get paid to do. This Blog ummm well, it does go on the company website, but again, it isn’t in my job description, and I do it because I want to.
My night out drinking? Weeeeellll sure they are people to whom I have delivered training, and it will benefit the company if I keep in close contact with them, but, I like these people and I am happy that they want to share their successes with me – I do feel like I have played a part in making that happen for them (also, I’m pretty sure I won’t have to buy a drink all night, lol) But is that work?? Hey perhaps I can lodge an expenses claim for the taxi home – Karen???
Near the end of next month, I will be attending a webinar about the effect of social media on business. I have registered because I am interested, but it is during office hours and I have not applied for leave. It may well be of benefit to the company to have more information about that, but is it actually work?
Anyhow, you see my problem – I love what I do and I do what I love, so it is very hard to draw a distinct boundary between the two.
If you do not have this problem, I strongly suggest that you work out what you are passionate about, then get the TRAINING to make it your profession as well as your passion!
I call it life-work synergy, not work-life balance!
